Description: It is obviously that war and power caused by religious motifs are not only subjects of historical and religio-historical researches, but one of the most demanding items as well in current political and religious discussions as in dialogues of cultural science in the 21st century. This reinforcing recurrence of conflicts caused by religious motifs is subject of research by the science of religion, ethnology, theology, historical studies, studies of ancient Near East, Egyptology and Islamic studies and lead to interdisciplinary researches about that phenomenon. The 42th und 43th annual conferences of the Deutsche Religions-geschichtliche Studiengesellschaft by the headline „religion and war“ discussed the religious legitimation of power and war. This volume presents the results of the meetings.
